Coping Skills
Coping skills are skills we use to deal with everyday life and its stressors. It either helps us adapt to stress or solve the problem.
Examples of Coping Skills
Problem-Solving - Find solutions to your problems. Weigh out the pros and cons when you decide to go try your solution.
Positive Thinking - This helps increase self-esteem and self confidence. Avoid negative thinking because this will lead to frustrations, tension, & stress. Talk in a positive manner and convert any negative thoughts into a positive one.
Example: Negative - I am afraid I am not good enough. Positive - I am afraid only because I decided to be. I can decide not to be and do something about it.
Adapt by changing your expectations and attitude - View problems in a positive way & look at the big picture. Is this really worth getting upset about? Set reasonable goals because perfectionism equals stress.
Accept what you cannot change - Forgive because we live in an imperfect world with people who make mistakes. It is just how it goes. Forgiving allows you to release the negative energy that is inside of you. In life we come across challenges that we can't change. See challenges positively and as an opportunity to learn and grow. Lastly, even if there seems to be nothing else that would help, still share your feelings about it. The more you talk about your problems, the better you feel afterwards.
