Eating right is one way to improve your health and reduce your risk for serious health problems such as obesity and diabetes. A healthy diet can improve mental health and also gives you the additional energy you need for your busy life! The stress of teen parenting uses up a lot of energy, and therefore it is important to eat the right foods to keep you energized, healthy and strong.
Tips for healthy eating:
1. Use MyPlate as a guide. Use the "10 tips" to make healthy food choices everyday:

2. Always read the Nutrition Label:

3. Make your own food
Pack a lunch
Try new recipes
4. Eat only when you are hungry
5. Avoid sugary foods and caffeine as a source of energy.
Avoiding empty calories
6. Eating healthy yourself will set a good example for your child as he/she grows!
Tips for losing weight if appropriate:
1. Start with small steps like eliminating sugar sweetened beverages such as soda or sunny D.
2. Make sure your goals are realistic.
3. Seek support from those who relate to your struggles.
4. Keep your food portions under control. Eat small meals frequently (every 2-3 hours).
5. Keep careful track of your caloric intake by writing down what you eat and how much calories they consist of.
6. ALWAYS make physical activity a part of your life. (Exercise helps in maintaining the weight that you have lost)
